Nuphlo Pumps

Silicone Flexible Impellers

White/translucent silicone rubber flexible impellers were developed by Nuphlo Pumps especially for the dairy industry in New Zealand which is particularly opposed to black consumables. Nuphlo silicone flexible impellers are considered more compatible with food products than black rubber impellers traditionally used. Once having used these more food-friendly white impellers, our customers stay converted.

Nuphlo white silicone impellers have been extensively used since 1998 and are operating in many different food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. The impellers come in three sizes for each Nuphlo flexible impeller pump, Models PD15 1½” (38mm), PD20 2” (48mm) and PD30 3” (72mm).

Features

  • Silicone flexible impellers are inert and will not taint food and beverage products.
  • The silicone polymer used is approved by FDA and other regulatory authorities for food contact.
  • Silicone flexible impellers have a lower co-efficient of friction than standard rubber impellers so the motor draws less power which is aided by the highly polished inner surface of the Nuphlo flexible pump housings.. more about flexible rubber impeller pumps ...
  • They will withstand CIP solutions including NaOH and temperatures to 90ºC (we recommend this temperature only for the cleaning cycle of the pump, not for prolonged periods of operation).
  • They handle a wide range of products.
  • They will not harden with age and a long working life can be expected.
  • Silicone flexible impellers have better elasticity and blades will develop only a slight 'set' in the direction of rotation, compared to standard black rubber impellers.

Materials

The silicon polymer rubber used by Nuphlo Pumps has a small percentage of silicon filler and no plasticizers as it is naturally flexible.  Standard or synthetic rubber on the other hand, has carbon black filler and higher percentages of plasticizers.  When black rubber impellers come to the end of their lives, they can discolour milk or other products with black specks/smears when the rubber breaks down.

We no longer manufacture black rubber impellers as we consider silicone impellers more compatible with food products.
