Positive Displacement PD250 Waveplate Pump

Nuphlo’s new generation Waveplate positive displacement pump is ideal for the gentle handling of shear sensitive, fragile and viscous products, common to the food and dairy industry.
The Waveplate 4” (100mm) inlet and outlet pump has added advantages over lobe and worm type pumps traditionally used, namely smooth, pulsation-free flow (at lower revs than the equivalent lobe pump with the same throughput), virtually eliminating pipe vibration. The simple robust design saves on costs.
 
Capabilities
  • Gentle handling of typical viscous and shear sensitive food products.
  • Capacity ranges from 10m3/hr to 60m3/hr at pressures up to 10 bar.
  • For higher flows, the pump can be direct coupled to an 8 pole motor (11 kW min.) For lower flows, SEW motor gearbox units are used with input kW determined by product and pumping rate.
  • Coupled to a VSD (Variable Speed Device) output can be perfectly matched to process requirements and the pump can be automatically controlled by external sensors or computer programme .. more about variable speed devices ...

Uses

  • Pumping typical viscous and shear sensitive food products e.g. cream, butter, casein whey concentrate, curd and whey, soft cheese.
    In the case of curd and whey, a 30% reduction in fines is achieved as the stringy curd passes through the larger waveplate chambers with less degradation than in a lobe or worm pump.   A higher curd yield results.
  • Products containing vegetable, fruit or meat pieces (to 30mm diameter) are easily handled. 
  • Fruit pulp.
  • Transfer of corn starch into tankers.
  • This positive displacement 4” (100mm inlet/outlet) rotary pump is ideal for larger applications (the only size we make at present).

Features

  • Cast from 316L stainless steel by the high accuracy investment casting process, and machined and polished to a high finish. The transition housing between motor and pump head is also cast in 316L stainless steel so will not rust over time.. more about stainless steel castings  ...
  • The wave-wheel and drive boss are securely fixed to the motor shaft from the non-product side of the pump so no internal nuts are necessary. This arrangement allows the wave-wheel to be mounted closely to the motor drive end bearing, minimizing shaft deflection and maximizing seal life. With this system, there is no need for an outboard support bearing.
  • Effective CIP cleaning is ensured by hygienic design and good internal surface finish. The pump is fully CIP capable to 90°C. with no internal liners, etc. for product to lodge behind.
  • Dismantling and re-assembly is easily accomplished in less than five minutes by wing nut access to all movable parts.
  • The unique rotor mounting system allows quick access to mechanical seals.
  • Only three replaceable parts necessary - the shuttle-gate, seals and 'O' rings.
  • Standard 'O' rings readily available on a global basis.  
  • Long life, wear resistant special nylon shuttle-gate.
  • A heated/cooled back-plate and double water flushed seal are options available.  Heated backplates are a useful addition for high melting point products, e.g. meat pie fill .. more about seal options ....
  • Only one hygienic 'O' ring joint between the back-plate and pump case. The mechanical seal housing is an integral part of the back-plate and has no separate joints.
  • A custom designed hard-faced mechanical seal features a positive drive system for use with viscous products.  A water flushed secondary seal is standard.  The unit is assembled as a cartridge.  Seals automatically pre-set when the rotor is tightened up and no further adjustment is required.
  • Large oval shaped inlet and outlet ports for maximum entry and exit area. These ports can be direct coupled to specialized items of plant or can be fitted with adapter pieces terminating in 4" RJT or other hygienic fittings.
  • The pump head can be rotated and the inlet and outlet ports set in different positions.  For viscous products a vertical inlet and side discharge is ideal.  A clamp ring allows multiple variations.
  • Pump is fully reversible.
  • Optional stainless steel motor shroud slots firmly into a groove in the transition housing allowing instant removal for access to the motor (no bolts) and protects the motor from the direct force of wash-down hoses.
  • Free-standing pumps are fitted with four height-adjustable feet. These are made from strong nylon with rubber pads to distribute the weight and ensure epoxy surfaced or tile floors are not damaged.

Description

The principle is elegantly simple and uses a ‘waveplate’ with four waves around the circumference of the rotor to transport the product through the pump.  The four waves create chambers as they move through the housing and as one side empties, the other side starts so there is a continuous, pulse-free flow.

A sliding gate, moved from side to side by the waves, seals against the waveplate and the rotor.  This gate separates the inlet port from the outlet port of the pump and is made from a special white nylon of high mechanical strength and exceptional wearing properties (PTFE lubricant filled).  It is food grade approved and is immune to a wide range of products including all standard CIP solutions.

With innovation and trials, Nuphlo has transformed existing technology, combined with design features from other Nuphlo pumps, into an efficient positive displacement pump.
